AR-10 and AR-15 Buffer Parts — Tubes, Buffers and Springs
The AR platform is a masterpiece of moving parts, and the buffer system plays a key role. If you’re adjusting your AR’s timing or configuration, you may need a new buffer, tube or spring — or all of the above — to ensure everything operates correctly.
Since we build ready-to-fire AR-10s and AR-15s as well as parts, we have numerous buffer tubes and components for sale.
How the AR Buffer System Works
With the AR platform’s direct gas impingement design, gas from a fired projectile is funneled through the gas system and into the upper receiver, where it pushes the bolt carrier group (BCG) backward to facilitate unlocking, extracting and ejecting.
As the BCG continues to move backward, it contacts the buffer and compresses the spring within the buffer tube. Once the spring is at full compression, it pushes the BCG forward again, allowing the bolt face to strip another round from the magazine and chamber it to continue the cycle.
The design involves numerous parts working together, so the buffer components must be appropriate for the firearm’s caliber and gas system. A buffer with more mass will slow the cycle and reduce felt recoil, while a lighter one will allow the system to reciprocate faster.
Our Range of Buffer Tubes and Parts
We carry several classes of AR buffers, including .308 rifle and carbine, 5.56 rifle and carbine, and 9mm carbine. We also provide various 5.56 buffer tubes, plus a pistol version.
If you’re building an AR that will receive an adjustable stock, check out our six-position 5.56 AR-15 buffer tube. This nickel boron buffer tube affords all the benefits of our proprietary NiB-X® coating — naturally lubricated surfaces, outstanding protection and an eye-catching silver finish. We also have an anodized version for those who prefer classic black.
