Muzzle Devices
Nitrided, Nitromet and Nickel Boron Muzzle Devices
Adding a muzzle device to your AR-15 or other firearm is an excellent way to improve your shooting experience. Many firearm barrels produced today are already threaded, making it easy to add a flash hider or muzzle brake.
At WMD Guns, we have a range of muzzle devices for sale with nickel boron and other premium coatings already applied. These accessories allow for quick gun modification to help you build the perfect firearm for your purposes.
Types of Muzzle Devices We Have Available
WMD sells several classes of muzzle device to fit various applications — flash hiders, muzzle brakes and compensators.
The Difference Between Muzzle Brakes, Flash Hiders and Comps
Flash hiders, brakes and comps differ in their intended purpose, but a single muzzle device may accomplish some of each goal to varying degrees. Here’s what makes them distinct.
Flash Hiders
A flash hider is designed specifically to lessen muzzle flash after a shot. As a gunshot’s “fireball” can be disorienting in some settings, especially in a dark area like might be expected of a self-defense scenario, a flash hider helps the shooter preserve their vision so they can make clean follow-up shots.
Perhaps the best-known design sold today is the A2 “birdcage” flash hider common on Mil-Spec AR-15s.
Muzzle Brakes
Brakes look similar to flash hiders, but they are machined with specific vent angles that allow them to redirect some of the gases generated by burning gunpowder. As a result, they lessen felt recoil, making shooting more enjoyable.
Muzzle brakes come in many different styles to accommodate shooters’ recoil reduction needs.
Compensators
A comp is like a sort of highly targeted muzzle brake. Instead of just directing gases outward or backward to lessen recoil, this device forces them upward. Some comps may even be “clocked” to push the gas up and to the left to work against bullet spin. This design combats muzzle rise and makes it easier to stay on target to place the next round.
How Does Nickel Boron Improve a Muzzle Device?
Another commonality of brakes, comps and flash hiders is that they get dirty — an occupational hazard of being placed at the end of a muzzle and exposed to carbon buildup.
A brake or birdcage coated with NiB benefits from the impressive hardness and lubricity of this finish. Nickel boron can be wiped clean with a rag, without needing any harsh solvents or scrubbing.
